Previously I have had a few clogs that were really tight around top of the foot. Some of the clogs that I had didn’t provide the needed arch support, some clogs used to roll the ankles as I tried to wear them, and some of them even caused me to slip during work.

Even with factory offshore, the quality of Dansko Shoes is still good

I have been wearing Dansko clogs since more than 10 years now. I am totally aware of the fact that they’ve moved the factory to China ever since the end of the Sanita contract. But the quality is still pretty good.

The first pair of Oiled clogs that I purchased lasted around 7 years. And during that time I used them quite heavily. I really love them. I got the shiny finish (patent) clogs in both Danskos and Sanita.

They all cracked in the same area of toe box, where the toes bend. I purchased three pairs and all three of them had the same issue. The leather cracked. This is when I hesitantly started using the oiled clogs again and decided to give them another try.

The Dansko Women’s Professional Pro Cabrio Leather must be maintained

The first thing that I noticed after taking them out of the box was that they were really dry. To be honest, it was the driest and the thirstiest leather that I had ever seen. Having grown up playing with horses, I was quite familiar with different kinds of leather, as well as oiling and conditioning it.

I took out the vegetable oil and used a paper towel to apply the oil on my new clogs. I kept pouring the oil until the leather couldn’t absorb anymore.

For your information, you can pour any kind of oil having medium weight for example; olive oil, canola oil or the traditionally used neets foot oil. Remember that simply using the leather conditioner isn’t enough. You will need to use the oil.

Final words

I realized with patent leather clogs that they were most probably using the same dry leather used for oiled leather and then they were simply putting the patent leather on the top. If the leather is left in such dry condition, it simply cracks. So far these clogs have been really good and they are working really well. One of the best things about them is the amazing arch support.

These are surely wider than Sanita clogs. However, they are comfortably tight and you don’t need to put on a pair of thick socks to make the clogs stay on the feet. Remember, it is important to get around a pinky width of free space between the heel and the back of clog. Also, your foot should lift up a little out of the back of the clog.
